The farmers of six district of Jashore region are expecting about 140,000 tons of wheat production in the current season. They had brought a total of 36,366 hectares of land under the farming. Better price of cereal crops has encouraged the farmers to go ahead ignoring the cold wave sweeping over the country in past few weeks.
The farmers of the region had produced 136,164 tons of the crop on 35,736 hectares in the last season, said the office sources of the additional director of the department of agriculture extension (DAE) in Jashore.
Abdul Hamid, a farmer of Churamankati of Chowgachha upazila in Jashore, said he brought his two bighas of land under the wheat farming in the season like last season. Better price of the crop has encouraged him to cultivate the same once again.
“I am expecting about 60 mounds of the grain for an amount of approximate Taka 90 thousand where I might receive the profit for Taka 55 thousand from the plot,” he said.
Farmer Anisur Rahman of Aushia village, weeding on his wheat plot when contacted said he is expecting 90 maunds of wheat from his one acre of land in the season when the farmers were receiving optimum prices.
According to the office sources of DAE in Jashore, the farmers of Jashore brought 800 hectares of land under the wheat farming, while the farmers in Jhenaidah brought 6,535 hectares. The farmers in Magura brought 4,750 hectares, Kushtia farmers brought 11,510 hectares, Chuadanga farmers brought 750 hectares and Meherpur farmers brought 12,000 hectares under the farming this season. They are expecting produce about 1.5 tones of wheat this season as the climate was almost favourable till early January.
The sources said all the farmers have completed the sowing the seeds on their lands which are growing naturally with the favourable climate.
Additional director of the department of agriculture extension (DAE) in Jashore Partha Pratim Saha when contacted said the farmers of the region are almost aware about their crops.
They play role in producing crops, especially, cereal crops and vegetables in the country and contributing in the afro-sector all along. Better price of the cereal crops has been encouraging the farmers when the DAE staffs have been providing al out assistance including technology support for the farmers.
