Japan has completed the delivery of promised 3 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine through the COVAX facility to meet the urgent needs of the Bangladeshi people.
The delivery was completed on Saturday night when the government received the final batch of 634,920 doses vaccines manufactured in Japan at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
On the arrival, the vaccines were handed over to the government with presence of Jashim Uddin Khan, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Sabuj Ahmed, Director of the Corona Cell of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other high-level officials from the Government of Bangladesh, and Yamaha Hiroyuki, Chargéd’Affaires of the Embassy of Japan.
“We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to the generous support from Japan. Japan has been always supporting Bangladesh in the fight against COVID-19. We hope such assistance will continue and we will effectively utilize the vaccines for the people of Bangladesh," Khan was quoted as saying in a statement.
“I am pleased that Japan has completed the delivery of more than 3 million AstrZeneca vaccines today, which Japan had committed to Bangladesh. Those vaccines already handed over to Bangladesh government have been inoculated to people, some of whom had been long waiting for the second shot of the AstraZeneca vaccines, and contributing to increasing the vaccination rate in the country. I hope those vaccines will contribute to the Bangladesh government's efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19," said Yamaya.
