Jamila Alim, the wife of Abdul Alim, the legendary artiste of Bengali music, is no more.
She died of a brain haemorrhage at 2.25pm on Tuesday, October 12. This information was confirmed by her daughter, musician Nurjahan Alim.
She said her mother was 83 years old at the time of her death. She is survived by four sons and a daughter. Jamila Alim had been suffering from various diseases due to old age for a long time. She was rushed to a hospital in Banasree last night after her condition deteriorated. Nurjahan said that she died there.
The musician prayed for her mother and said, “I will never get to call my mother again. Never say when will you come, I am waiting for you. How can I forget my mother? I seek blessings from everyone for my mother.”
Nurjahan further said that the burial of her mother Jamila Alim will be completed on Wednesday 14th October. Jamila will be buried in the family graveyard of her father’s house at Dohar police station in Bikrampur.
Incidentally, Jamila started her family during the rule of Pakistan with Abdul Alim, the timeless folk musician of Bangladesh, the uncrowned emperor of folk music and mystic artiste. Abdul Alim passed away on September 5, 1974. Today, after 46 years of her husband’s death, Jamila has left to the land of no return.
