Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Khandker Golam Faruque on Saturday warned that the anarchic activities that Jamaat-Shibir had carried out in the past, will not be allowed to return again.
He said that Jamaat-Shibir men killed policemen, they burnt law enforcers to death. These will not be allowed any more.Strict action will be taken against Jamaat-Shibir anarchist, he warned.
The DMP Commissioner made these remarks after visiting the injured policemen at Rajarbagh Central Police Hospital, who were attacked by Jamaat-Shibir in the capital Dhaka.
The DMP boss said the Jamaat-Shibir activists attacked the police after defying the ban on it’ processions in Dhaka.
10 police personnel includinga officer were injured. Later police dispersed them and arrested some Jamaat-Shibir activists.
He said strict legal action will be taken against Jamaat-Shibir activists.
When asked whether there was any prior information about the Jamaat procession in the city, the DMP Commissioner said, we first
came to know Jamaat-Shibir men were trying to bring out illegal procession from BaitulMukarram area. We had our police there. When they tried to bring out the procession, we dispersed the procession.
Then they attempted to bring out a procession at Mouchak-Malibagh area. As you know, that area is the intersection of three police stations, so each police station were prepared in its own area. But on Friday ,Jamaat-Shibir men came together and bring out a procession. Clashes were occurred when we intercepted them at Mauchak area, the head of DMP stated.
About special drives against Jamaat-Shibir , he said operation has been going on since Friday night.
Our drives will continue, he vowed.
