Jago Nari organization arranged a project inception workshop on early promotion and taking action to protect life and livelihood from climate related hazards at Kalapara and Patuakhali Sadar Upazila on Tuesday. The workshop was held at Madhumati Hall room of Patukhali Upazila Parishad.
Khorshed Alam, Project-in-Charge, Inception Workshop, presided over the programme. Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Patuakhlai Sanjib Das attended the programme as the chief guest. At the beginning of the programme, Project Manager of CCAA project under Jago Nari Md. Maniruzzaman spoke about the goals, objectives and expected results of the organization. Programme Director of Jago Nari Md. Golam Mostafa delivered the welcome speech. After that, Anticipatory Action Project Officer S M Naeem talked about the activities of Save the Children International. Among the special guests, Upazila Agriculture Extension Officer Md. Eklasur Rahman spoke in the programme. He said to the former speakers that the policy or project work have to be planned in a way that is comprehensible to the general people.
Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Md. Mahfuzur Rahman said the cyclone has damaged the embankment and the fishes came out of the river because of it. The rivers are a big source of animal protein. So the embankments need to be repaired soon. Moreover, the embankments have to be rebuilt according to the water level rising in the last storm. Incentives should be taken as well to ensure that entrepreneurs are not becoming disinterested in the fisheries sector.
Chotobighai Union Parishad Chairman Syed Altaf Hossain said people do not heed the danger signal and are reluctant to go to the disaster shelters. So publicity should be increased regarding creating awareness about disasters. When the organization was asked about Jago Nari's scope of work and whether they would work together with everyone, Project Manager of Jago Nari Md. Maniruzzaman Prince said advance planning on how to create awareness and deal with disasters will be made with people of all sectors. Senior Station Officer of Fire Service Jewel Ahmed also spoke in the programme. Upazila Youth Development Officer Badal Amin Khan and journalists were also present at this time.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sanjib Das said that all private organizations should coordinate with the district administration to extend cooperation to coastal areas.
