Jaffna Kings crowned the champions of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) for the third consecutive season beating Colombo Stars by two wickets.
Jaffna reached the target of 164 runs with 4 overs to spare. Riding on the opening partnership of Rahmanullah 36 off 18 balls and Avishka Fernando’s 50 from 43 balls, helped the Jaffna Kings secure an emphatic win.
He also built a 72 runs partnership with Sadeera Samarawickrama (44) for the third wicket before Suranga Lakmal removed both batters.
Following the wicket of Samarawickrama, Jaffna lost five wickets in quick succession. However, it was a little too late for the Stars as Binura Fernando took his team to the port of victory in the last over. After being invited to bat, Colombo failed to make a good start. They lost Nishan Madushka (1) on just two runs. Dinesh Chandimal continued his good form as he built up a 75 runs partnership for the second wicket with Charith Asalanka.
Chandimal scored 49 off 40 balls, while Asalanka made 31 off just 23 balls before Ravi Bopara (47 not out) played another brilliant knock to help Colombo Stars post a fighting total.
