Thanks to an entertaining batting show from Will Jacks, Chattogram Challenger sealed their place in the playoffs after a valuable four wickets win over Sylhet Sunrisers in the Bangabandhu BPL on Saturday.
Held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, in the day’s first match, it was too essential for Chottagram Challengers to secure a spot in the playoffs, as they were stood on equal position with Khulna Tigers on points table.
The Port City based team Chottagram Challengers did the job successfully with chasing a challenging total of 185 runs set by Sylhet Sunrisers with Will Jacks carrying through the bat with a devastating batting displaying.
The Englishman plundered a 91-run knock off 56 balls to lead the team chasing the mammoth total accompanied by Chad Walton and Shamim Hossain at the middle and a tiny opening partnership (25 from 2.5 overs) but quick with Zakir Hassan (17 off 9 balls).
Jacks hammered eight fours and hit four towering sixes on his way to 92 runs innings.
However, the match highlight was Will Jacks’ responsible batting when he smashed the Sylhet bowlers to bring almost single handed batting, though Walton and Shamim Hassan Assisted well but the bowlers of Sylhet threatened very often with making break through.
Specially, when Shohag Gazi picked up wickets of Zakir Hassan and Afif Hossain, Alauddin Babu and Mizanur Rahman took another two wickets in quick succession, Will Jacks just keep at bay the surprising attacks with strong nerve playing one of the best innings of the BPL.
Earlier Sylhet Sunrisers, who are at the bottom of the point table and had nothing to earn but some honor in their credit to finish the season with note having the second victory.
Sylhet, who could manage only one win out of their 10 outings, sent to bat first made an impressive start with Colin Ingram and Anamul Haque scored 41 runs from 4.5 overs before being departed.
Despite losing two wickets of Colin Ingram and Mizanur Rahman in in a span of six ball balls, did not face any major damage when Landle Simmons (42 off 27 balls), Robi Bopara shined with 44 of 21 balls and Mosaddek Hossain was unbeaten with 35 from 22 balls to give Sylhet a moderate total.
All their combined efforts came in vain when Will Jacks destroyed all bowling attacks to depend the 185 runs total.
But the result left the fate of Minister Group Dhaka to play the playoffs depends on the match between Khulna Tigers and Comilla Victorians (was going on when the report was prepared) but a win for Khulna will confirm their playoffs spot and a loss will helpful for Dhaka.
