Vaccination of public transport workers began on Wednesday morning at the capital’s Mohakhali Bus Terminal.
The programme was inaugurated by Dr Md Shamsul Haque, member secretary of Covid-19 vaccine management committee of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
He said, “Vaccination of transport workers has started from today. We will bring everyone under the vaccination very soon. We have got a list of 900 people so far. We do not have any vaccine crisis.”
He urged everyone to get vaccinated as soon as possible to avoid Covid-19 transmission.
Nur Mohammad Mazumder, chairman of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) had said earlier that a crash programme would be undertaken for transport drivers and workers. The vaccination programme started on Wednesday after the list was made.
Drivers and workers in the terminals can get the vaccine if they have national identity card or birth registration certificate.
The Department of Health has said that this vaccine programme for transport workers will be carried out all over the country as well as in the capital.
The government has recently issued 11-point directives to prevent Covid-19 infection. According to the circular, vaccinated transport workers would be allowed to operate vehicles.
