The just re-elected Mayor of Narayanganj city corporation Dr Selina Hayat Ivy said that her opponents had hatched conspiracies to defeat her during the recent polls which she foiled and emerged as the winner with a huge margin of votes.
“You witnessed various conspiracies hatched before the election against me. You were beside me and I also hope your support for me will continue. I foiled all the conspiracies,” said Mayor Ivy while addressing the media on Sunday organized by Deobhog Jonokalyan Samitee reception ceremony.
She said that her main strength was the people who supported her. “I always worked for the people without any discrimination,” she said.
“People elected me as the city mayor for the third time as I worked for the development of the city. I have no gangsters and I remain honest, Ivy remarked.
“I am the daughter of Deobhog, which means Narayanganj, so I will always remain beside the people and raise my voice against any irregularities,” Ivy promised.

Ivy also said, “I belong to the ruling party - Awami League, however, a section of the local party activists and leaders had conspired to defeat me. Sometimes they criticized me on my personal matters, and often tried to brand me as a land grabber.”
Narayanganj-dwellers wanted a change and had sought a leader who continues to create an environment for freedom of speech. I probably have fulfilled their expectations.”
She concluded by pledging to make all-out development programmes in all the 27 wards in the city areas.
On January 16, Selina Ivy was elected city mayor for the consecutive third time with a huge margin of votes to her nearer contestant candidate Taimur Alam Khandakar.
