Ivy’s supporters sued for old incident

After almost three years of a clash regarding rivalry over hawker issue that left about 25 injured including Narayanganj City Mayor Dr Selina Hayat Ivy, a man filed a case with the Narayanganj Judicial Magistrate court against 17 people including four councillors and Narayanganj Press Club president.

Petitioner Niyajul Islam Khan submitted a petition to the senior judicial magistrate court on December 20 against 17 people under section of physical assault and attempt to murder.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Fahmida Khatun on December 21 ordered the Officer-in-Charge of Narayanganj Sadar model police station to investigate the matter. The court also fixed up the next date of the case on March 22, 2021, court inspector Mohammad Assaduzzaman said.

The accused of the case are identified as Narayanganj Press Club 

President Mahbubur Rahman Masum, Jahangir Alam former joint secretary of district Awami League, organizing secretary of the same unit Abu Sufian, 13 no ward councilor Maksudul Alam Khandaker Khorshed, 15 no ward councillor Washid Baran Bishwas, 18 no ward councillor Kabir Hossain, 21 no ward councillor Hannan Sarker, city jubo leaugue Vice President Kamrul Huda Babu, General Secretary Ahmad Ali Reza Uzzal (Ivy’s younger brother), recently demised Freedom Fighter Aminul Islam, Sarker Alam, Hazi Newaz, Saikot member, Motalib, Faruk, Opu and former Chhatro League leader Minhajul Kadir Mimon (Ivy’s nephew).

On January 16, 2018 on Bangabandhu road opposite of Narayanganj Press Club, City Mayor Ivy and her fellows were walking on footpath toward Chashara to evict illegal hawkers, when the clash happened. Then it was found in the CCTV footage that Niyajul Islam Khan who was gun-totter was mob beaten as he opened his firearm to use against Mayor’s lives.

Soon after the incident the then city corporation law officer GM Sattar filed a case with Sadar model police station mentioning 22 peoples name including Niyajul Islam Khan and Shah Nijam. On the other hand, Ripon Khan, younger brother of Niyajul Islam Khan filed another case with the same police station against 17 fellow of city mayor. Police recorded both the complaints as general diary (GD).

In a court order on December 4 this year Narayanganj Sadar police recorded city corporation law officers' petition as a regular case. The case recorded against gun-totter Niyajul Islam Khan, city Awami League Joint Secretary Shah Nijam, Organizing Secretary Zakirur Alam Helal, city unit Jubo League President Shahdat Hossain Shajnu, city unit Swechchhasebak League Jwel Hossain, Jubo Leauge Leader Jane Alam Biplob, district unit Chhatro Leauge former General Secretary Mizanur Rahaman Sujon, Jubo League leader Nasiruddin, Jubo League leader Chanchal Mahmud and unknown 900-1000 people.

OC of Narayanganj Model police station Shahzaman told the Bangladesh Post that the court order has not yet reached in his station.
