Mehadi Hasan Khan, Research Associate of GERC (Green Energy Research Center), Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE), Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) received the 2nd Best Paper Award in non-student category, in the 5th International Conference on Advances in Electrical Engineering (ICAEE) held at the IUB Campus, Dhaka, Bangladesh during 26-28 September 2019. On behalf of his co-authors, Mehadi Hasan Khan presented the research paper titled "Power Factor Analysis of an Energy Efficient Single Phase VFD for Industrial Sewing Machines " authored by Mehadi Hassan Khan, Mohammad Rejwan Uddin, Zaima Tasneem, and Khosru M Salim. This paper was chosen to be the 2nd best paper (non-student category) among 171 papers presented in all of the 30 technical sessions. There were initially 550 papers submitted for review from 19 countries around the globe. The best paper award winners were selected based on the scores given by both reviewers and session chairs including nomination from the session chair of respective technical session. The research project was performed at the labs of Department of EEE, IUB and still the project is going on. Through this project, Professor Khosru M Salim, head of Department of EEE and his team members wish to provide an affordable solution of Energy Efficient Single Phase VFD for Industrial Sewing Machines with improved Power Factor in the near future.
Professor Joyashree Roy (inaugural Bangabandhu Chair Professor at AIT and 2007 Nobel Peace Prize-winning team member) and Professor Milan Pagon (Acting VC, IUB) handed over the crests and the certificates of Dr Fatema Rashid "Best Paper Award" to the winners during the conference dinner and closing ceremony of ICAEE 2019 held on Friday at a local restaurant of Dhaka.
