Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) School of Business, in association with Global Studies and Governance Programme and The Rohingya Solidarity Network organized a panel discussion on “The Rohingya Refugee Crisis: Meeting the Twin Challenges of Humanitarian Support and Repatriation”.
Eminent personalities, diplomats, faculties and students attended the event held on 12 June.
Opening remarks were made by Professor Dr Mohammad Aminul Karim, dean of School of Business, IUB. This was followed by an address by Professor Milan Pagon, Vice-Chancellor (IUB). The event was moderated by Dr Sadequl Islam, professor and chair, Department of Economics, Laurentian University, Canada.
The panelists presented findings from their visits to Rohingya camps. This was followed by insights from Touhid Hossain, former foreign secretary, Professor Dr Imtiaz A Hussain, dean of School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, IUB and Dr Fouzul Kabir Khan, former energy secretary.
The programme highlighted the humanitarian and repatriation challenges in Bangladesh since the influx of Rohingya migrants and the continued efforts to increase awareness on the issue was also stressed. A lively Q&A session was followed after the conference.
