Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organized its largest English debate tournament which is also the biggest debating event in South Asia titled, ‘IUB Ascension 2019’ from Wednesday to Saturday at the university campus in Bashundhara R/A, Dhaka.
This has been the fourth consecutive year of IUB Ascension and the university organises this huge tournament every year to encourage young students for becoming more pragmatic, insightful and exposed to the real-world which will eventually enable them taking greater responsibilities and becoming the future leaders.
The grand finale and award giving ceremony of the tournament took place at IUB on Wednesday evening. 120 including 12 teams from abroad under different schools, colleges and universities participated in this international debate tournament. Apart from all topmost schools, colleges and universities of the country, participants also came from Australia, Malaysia, England, Philippines, Indonesia, India and Nepal. 16 adjudicators to conduct the tournament came from UK, Netherlands, Indonesia, Singapore and Philippine.
In Open and Novice categories, IBA-DU clinched the Championship trophies. In High school category, Academia became the Champion. Rohit Midha from Igniting Mind India for the Novice category and Sajid Khandakar from IBA-DU for the Open category win Best Individual Speaker’s award. Inqiyad Patwary from Mastermind win Best Individual Speaker award for High School category.
Rashed Chowdhury, former chairman, Board of Trustees, IUB and; Professor Milan Pagon, vice chancellor (acting) spoke on the occasion and distributed prizes among the winners.
Alongside, Trustee Md Tanveer Madar; Trustee Dr Syed Serajul Huq; Trustee Dr Husne Ara Ali and Md Anwarul Islam, registrar, IUB also distributed awards among various winners.
Towhid Bin Muzaffar, head, Department of English, IUB, delivered formal vote of thanks.
