Adnan Ferdaus, a student of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia, has committed suicide, leaving behind a suicide note. The incident took place on Tuesday (October 08) at his residence in Manikganj. His family has confirmed the matter.
The deceased student was enrolled in the 2020-21 session of the Tourism and Hospitality Management department.
Adnan was initially admitted to the Folklore Studies department in the 2018-19 session but later switched to Tourism and Hospitality Management in the 2019-20 session. Due to some academic setbacks, he re-enrolled in the 2020-21 session and was actively attending classes.
However, he had been struggling with mental health issues and had been staying at home for the past 4-5 months while contemplating studying abroad. Yesterday, he ended his life by hanging himself after writing a suicide note.
Adnan's father, Ismail Hossain, said, ‘Adnan had been mentally unwell for a long time. He was undergoing treatment, but yesterday, he suddenly left us.’ He requested everyone to pray for his son's soul.
Assistant Professor Shoriful Islam, chairman of the Tourism and Hospitality Management department, expressed deep sorrow over Adnan’s untimely death, and said, ‘Adnan was a very bright student. At my request, I had been counseling him since he joined the university. We, the Tourism family, are deeply saddened by his sudden demise. We pray for the peace of his soul.’
