Officials of Islamic University (IU) staged work abstention programme demanding fulfilment of their 13-point charter again on the campus in Kushtia on Monday. The officials staged the demonstration under the banner of IU Officers’ Association with observed work abstention from 11:00am for an hour in front of the university administrative building.
They raised at least 13 demands including increasing of salary scale and the age limit of retirement to 62 years from 60 years and change the working hours of the university from 8:00am to 2:00pm instead of 9:00am to 4:30pm, admitting officers children at the university if the children have capability to apply.
While addressing Shamsul Islam Joha, president of IU Officers' Association said they would continue their demonstration on the campus until their demands are met. Consequently, the administrative activities of the university will be halted seriously from the next week, he added.
Besides, a 15-member convener committee by another group of the officers has been formed with deputy registrar M Alamgir Hossain Khan as convenor while deputy registrar M Abdul Hannan as member secretary introducing a new officers’ association one. The newly formed association declared their launching by a press conference held at Press Corner on the campus in the afternoon of the day.
The other officer bearers are- Mir Zillur Rahman, M Monirul Islam, Parvin Akter, Mir Sirazul Islam Ripu, M Golam Mahfuz Manzu, M Shahanur Alam Kiramat, Mawdud Ahmed Porag and Asaduzzaman Khan Makhon.
