Dr Shaikh Abdus Salam, retired professor of Mass Communication and Journalism department of Dhaka University, was appointed the new Vice Chancellor of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia on Tuesday.
M Abdul Hamid, President and Chancellor of the university, appointed Dr Salam, IU new vice chancellor, IU registrar in charge SM Abdul Latif confirmed it. However, IU registrar office did not receive any fax or email till filling of the report.
Ministry of Education has issued a notice in this regard signed by Nilima Afroz, senior deputy secretary of the ministry.
Chancellor appointed him to the post for the next four years under the section 10 (1) of the university act 1980, the notice added.
Prof Dr Sheikh Abdus Salam was born in Bagerhat district in 1955. He obtained his BSc honours degree on Economics in 1975 from Government BL College Khulna under Rajshahi University (RU). He earned his post graduation degree at the same department from Dhaka University.
He had completed his PhD degree on Communication and Journalism from University of Poona, India in 1986.
He served the chairman of the department of MCJ during 2006 to 2009 and he was the dean of Social Science of DU in 2009. He was the director general of Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) for five years.
