IU GE dept observes Environment Day

The Geography and Environment department of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia, has observed the World Environment Day-2024 under the slogan “Our land, Our future, We are Generation Restoration.” amid festivity and fanfare on Wednesday . Marking the day, the department brought out a colorful rally from the nuclear scientist Dr MA Wazed Miah academic building, led by university Vice-chancellor Professor Dr Shaikh Abdus Salam while its Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr M Mahbubar Rahamn, biological science faculty dean Professor Dr Rezuanul Islam, chairman of the department Assistant Professor Inzamul Haque Sazal, Assistant Professor Bipul Roy and Anisul Kabir were also present.

The procession ended at the main entrance of the university. Later, a tree plantation program was held there by the VC Dr Salam, Pro-VC Dr Rahman and others. The photography exhibition and poster showcasing were inaugurated by cutting the ribbon by the guests at the entrance of the faculty building on the campus.

Later, the green talk seminar was held at the seminar room. University Vice-chancellor Professor Dr Shaikh Abdus Salam addressed the seminar as a chief guest while department chairman Assistant Professor Inzamul Haque was in chair. Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr M Mahabubar Rahamn, biological science faculty dean Professor Dr Rezuanul Islam, GE dept founding chairman Professor Dr Kamal Uddin were present as special guests. Assistant Professor Iffat Ara, Bipul Roy and Anisul Kabir were present as key speakers at the seminar.  

The campus cleanup program and around two hundred medicinal plants were planted at the campus with the self-participation of the department students to show their awareness and responsibility towards environmental conservation.

In the photography and poster design exhibition the students show the land degradation, environment pollution, climate change impact, green initiative and endangered biodiversity types topics.

‘Every person has to embrace the world.  This is the birth place so protecting nature is very important. Conservation of the environment for future earth and generations is very important. The responsibility towards environmental conservation has to increase to sustain the earth,’ said VC Dr Salam.
