The authorities of Islamic University in Kushita have expelled five students of the Human Resource Management department over ragging and one student for vandalism in the university medical center.

The decision was taken at the meeting of the student-discipline committee of the university on Tuesday. IU acting registrar HM Ali Hasan confirmed the matter.

Hisham Nazir Shuvo and Mizanur Rahman Emon of Human Resource Management department under 2021-22 session were expelled permanently in connection with ragging. Apart from this, Shahriar Pulock, Sheikh Salahuddin Sakib and Sadman Sakib of the same department and same academic year were expelled for one year.

Meanwhile, Rezwan Siddiqui Kabbo, a student of the Law department during the 2018-19 academic session, was expelled permanently for the vandalism of the university medical center.

‘According to the university acts three students are expelled permanently while three have been expelled for one year in their involvement in ragging and vandalism.

No action had been taken against the two accused because of their non-involvement in the incident according to the investigation’, said IU proctor Dr Shahadat Hossain Azad.

Later, some students of the 2021-22 academic sessions locked the IU main gate to protest the authority’s decision this afternoon.

Incidentally, Rezwan Siddiki Kabbo and his two accomplices Atik Arman and Salman Aziz vandalized the emergency section office of the IU Medical Centre of the university at midnight on July 10. In the incident, the university authority expelled them temporarily and formed a three-member probe body to investigate the incident on July 15.

On September 09, a new student of the Human Resource Management department made a written complaint to the university authority of a ragging incident against the 5 students of the same department under the 2021-22 academic session. After that, a five-member probe body was formed by the university to create the BBA faculty dean Professor Saiful Islam as convener.
