A leader of the Islamic University (IU) Kushtia unit Students' League was held by students on Saturday on campus while attending his honors final semester exams. The incident occurred at the ‘Rabindra-Nazrul’ arts faculty building.
The proctor, student advisor, and coordinators of the ‘anti-discrimination student movement’ protected the leader from the angry and excited students and handed him over to the IU police station.
The arrested individual is Abdul Alim, a student of the Bangla department from the 2018-19 academic year and literature secretary of the IU unit BCL.
According to the students’ complaint, Alim threatened students during the ‘anti-discrimination student movement.’ He has also been accused of embezzling money collected for a sick student and owing money at a shop. The arrested leader, Abdul Alim, said, ‘I came to take the exam on my own initiative. I thought I would come late, attend the exam, and leave immediately after passing. But I didn’t realize the situation would escalate to this extent.’ In this regard, the university’s Proctor, Professor Dr. Shahinuzzaman, said, ‘We responded immediately upon learning of the incident. The proctorial body, student advisor, and ‘anti-discrimination student movement’ protected him from the excited students, rescued him, and later handed him over to the police. The allegations will be investigated before further actions are taken.’
