New Commissioner of Rangpur Metropolitan Police Md Majid Ali on Tuesday said it will not require many witnesses to prove who shot Abu Sayed and how he died.

“However, after the killing of Abu Sayed, the police arrested a minor boy and framed him as the murderer. It is a shame for the police,” he said.

The new commissioner of police was speaking at a view-exchange meeting with journalists at the Metropolitan Police Commissioner's office at 12:30pm on Tuesday.

He said the people of the world were shocked to see the manner in which Abu Sayed was martyred. “Bir Abu Sayed was born at every house in the country. I believe that Abu Sayed's example will be marked as a hero in the history of the country. I went to meet Abu Sayed's family soon after joining and apologised on behalf of the police force.”

Regarding the image of the police, the new commissioner of the Metropolitan Police said the police have played a good role since the dawn of independence. Traditional police forces have not done all the good things or all the bad things over the years. “This police force has worked for the welfare of the people of the country, including state formation. This is the fate of the police force today due to some self-interested and overzealous policemen. But we have no time to stay behind, no time to be silent, we have to come back.”

He also said, “I will not do Facebook policing, humanitarian policing or show-off policing. I promise. I want to do what the police do. I know this city…this region is my home. I grew up here. I want to do the real work of the police. Through this, people can sleep comfortably. It is our job to ensure that people can move on the streets, young women can shop and walk in the evening on the streets.”

Rangpur Metropolitan Police City SB Chief Abu Bakr Siddique, DB Chief Ibne Minan and journalists and other officials working in Rangpur were present at the view-exchange meeting of the new Commissioner of Police.
