Under the agricultural incentive programme for the financial year 2020-21, community based seedlings of Ropa-Aman paddy has been distributed free of cost among small and marginal farmers.
The distribution was officially inaugurated among 46 small and marginal farmers of Ishwardi upazila of Pabna on Thursday morning. Ishwardi Upazila Agriculture Extension Department organized the inauguration of the seed production and distribution activities.
Upazila Chairman Nuruzzaman Biswas inaugurated the distribution of free saplings and aman paddy saplings as the chief guest in front of the office of the Upazila Agriculture Officer.
The newcomer Upazila Nirbahi Officer PM Imrul Kayes, Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Mamtaz Mahal, Vice Chairman Abdus Salam Khan, Agriculture Extension Officer Mahmuda Motmainna, Agriculture Officer Shahidul Islam, Deputy Assistant Plant Protection Officer Ekhlashur Rahman, Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer Shri Sujan Kumar Roy and other farmers were present during the occasion.
According to the Upazila Agriculture Officer's Office, the seedbed was set up at the premises of the Abhit's Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) at Mashuriapara in Ishwardi and at Maubaria in Rahimpur in the city. Ropa and aman paddy seeds were sown in soil and trays two weeks ago. After 15 days, the seeds were picked up and distributed on Thursday. Farmers will plant these saplings in the land through rice transplanter.
Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer Shri Sujan Kumar Roy said that 46 farmers will be given these seedlings in phases as an incentive. Ishwardi Upazila Agriculture Extension Department took the initiative to produce these seeds. Each farmer will plant this sapling in an acre of land.
