Ulipur Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Ashraful Alam Russell on February 22nd issued a notice to the six people allotted houses for the project. Although they asked for a written reply within a week to find out the reason for not staying at home after receiving the allotment, 2-3 people responded till the report was written on Wednesday.
It is learned that on the occasion of Mujib's centenary, 121 houses of PM's shelter project were allotted in Dharanibari union of the upazila in two phases. But at the very beginning of allotment of houses, some unscrupulous people's representatives including the concerned union land assistants got involved in irregularities.
Apart from the real landless and homeless, these houses are allotted among the well-to-do and residents of other districts in exchange for money. As a result, they did not come to the house even after several months of allotment.
Shimul Mehedi, Nur Mohammad, Shahina Begum, Chalema Begum, Fazlul Haque, Sabuj Mia after getting houses in Munshibari Asylum Project of Dharnibari Union, never lived in that house.
Even other residents living in the project room have never seen them. It is also learned that the house found by Mahmudul Hasan in serial number 36 was used as a club house.
Talking to a beneficiary named Nur Mohammad at that time, he said that he has a two hundred century home in Telipara village of that union.
However, he does not live there. One of his sons is mentally ill and lives in Dhaka with his wife and children for treatment.
Shimul Mehdi's name is at number 19 in the list.
When contacted on the mobile number mentioned there, he said, I am a resident of Sirajganj, national identity card is also here. However, while making the list of houses, I was working in Dharanibari due to my job.
I got a house allotment as I had friendship with the then UP chairman Aminul Islam Fulu. Union Land Assistant Masood Rana Sarkar claimed that he had nothing to do with the irregularities in the preparation of the list, adding that there was a cycle at that time, they did it.
However, an application has been made to cancel the house in the name of Mahmudul Hasan in serial no.
Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Ashraful Alam Russell said, "After receiving the notice, 2/3 came to us. However, we are investigating why they do not stay at home, whether they have arrangements to stay somewhere else.”
Upazila Nibarhi Officer Bipul Kumar said necessary action would be taken against them if they did not respond within the stipulated time.
