Professor Dr Asif Nazrul, interim government’s adviser for the Ministry of Law and Parliamentary Affairs; has announced that the government will issue a red notice through Interpol to bring all the fugitives, including Sheikh Hasina, to trial.
He said this while talking to journalists after inspecting the renovation work at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) in the capital on Sunday. Asif Nazrul said that the government is committed to taking all necessary measures to repatriate fugitive accused, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, for their involvement in the killings and genocide committed during the student-led mass-uprising in July and August.
“The step to issue the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) red notices will be taken soon,” he said, adding that fugitive fascist elements, regardless of where they may be in the world, will be held and brought to justice. He assured that the government would put it maximum effort to ensure these people are returned to face trial.
Replying to a question on an alleged petition filed at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the Hague against individuals, including the Chief Adviser, Asif Nazrul said the plea was filed to mislead the global opinion.
He said that the government is not taking the Awami League’s complaint to the ICC into account. The Awami League has filed the complaint against the government to undermine the country's dignity. There is no reason for the complaint to be accepted in any way, he added.
“Moreover, this is not a case; it is just a written petition for the ICC prosecution office. Any person can do that,” he said.
It is such an unbelievable and pointless complaint that there is no reason for it to be turned into a writ. The fascist quarter filed that to mislead the global opinion and confuse the country's people, Dr Asif Nazrul further said.
Chief Prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam said that steps will be
taken to bring Awami League to justice as a party if the government gives direction in this regard.
