An international seminar on “The Place of Music in Traditional Education” was held at the University of Dhaka on Monday.
DU Department of Music organised the seminar at R.C. Majumdar Arts auditorium.
The Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University, Professor Dr. Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the seminar as the chief guest while Dr. Debproshad Dawn, Chairman of the Department of Music, chaired the inaugural session and Professor Dr. Abdul Bashir, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, gave a special speech as a distinguished guest.
Dr. Mohsina Akhtar Khanam, convenor of the organising committee, welcomed the participants.
In his speech, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman stated that music has evolved from traditional, guru-disciple based education to formal and modern education. He expressed the hope that this international seminar would play an important role in enriching the country's music world. Through establishing internal relations with various art forms such as dance, drama, and promoting coordination and mutual cooperation, music art will be further advanced.
