Chittagong Custom House celebrated the International Customs Day-2024 with great enthusiasm, excitement and festive atmosphere through meetings and seminars and various programmes. The theme of the day was 'Customs Engaging Traditional and New Partners with Purpose'. The day has been celebrated like other countries of the world by emphasizing the importance of establishing ties between old and new members.
On Friday morning, a seminar was held at the Chittagong Custom House Auditorium organised by the initiative of Custom Chittagong region.
Chittagong Customs Excise and VAT Training Academy Commissioner Suresh Chandra Biswas presided over the event. The Chief Guest of the meeting was National Board of Revenue Member (Musak: Implementation & IT) Dr. Moinul Khan. Special guests present were Chittagong Customs, Excise and VAT (Appeal) Commissionerate Md Moazzem Hossain, Chittagong Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate Syed Musfiqur Rahman, Chittagong Tax Zone-1 Commissioner Md Shahadat Hossain Shikdar, Chittagong Chamber Director AKM Aktar Hossain, Chittagong Metropolitan Chamber Vice President MA Mahbub Chowdhury, Chittagong Women Chamber Acting President Abida Mustafa.
Various stakeholders of customs, government officials, business leaders including C&F agents, shipping agent representatives and dignitaries were also present. Assistant Commissioner Sultanul Arefin and Afrin Jahan Naomin were in charge of the program.
Chief guest Dr. Moinul Khan, Member of National Revenue Board, said that customs day is being celebrated in Chittagong like the rest of the country. Chittagong Custom House is the major center of revenue collection. Customs not only collects revenue but also looks after security. But 28 percent of the revenue comes from customs.
As a special guest, Syed Musfiqur Rahman, Commissioner of Customs Excise and VAT Commissionerate, presented the main article.
VAT Commissioner Md. Moazzem Hossain said, I will work keeping the Prime Minister's 2041 goal in mind to build a happy and prosperous country. Emphasis will be given to increasing revenue collection.
Benapole Correspondent adds: On the occasion of the International Customs Day-2024, Customs House Benapole arranged various programmes to celebrat the day throughout the day on Friday.
The chief guest announced the inauguration of the day by flying balloons and pigeons, member of the National Board of Revenue, Mrs. Farzana Afroz.
Later, seminars and discussions were held at Benapole Customs Club Auditorium.
Commissioner of Benapole Customs House, Abdul Hakim, was present as a special guest on the occasion, Jashore Customs Excise and VAT Commissioner, Md. Kamruzzaman.
President of Benapole C&F Agent Association Alhaj Shamchur Rahman, Joint Commissioner Shafayat Hossain was the moderator.
Benapole Customs Joint Commissioner Hafizul Islam presented the customs key note.
Deputy Commissioner Saiedul Alam, DC Rabhat Kumar Singh, DC Rabindra Singh, DC Rafeza Sultana DC Athelo Chowdhury spoke among others.
The chief guest said in his speech that every customs officer should be sincere to collect revenue to keep the country's economy moving.
She called on all the citizens of the country to come forward to pay taxes and VAT on their own to build a poverty-free Bangladesh.
