The two-day 8th International Botanical Conference began yesterday at Dhaka University's Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban auditorium.
The conference was opened by DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. ASM Maksud Kamal as chief guest. The Bangladesh Botanical Society and the Department of Botany at DU co-organized this event, with the theme "Plant Sciences in Achieving SDG."
Prof. Dr. Md. Abul Bashar, President of the Bangladesh Botanical Society, presided over the inauguration session, which was addressed by former Professor of the DU Botany Department Dr. AKM Nazrul Islam and President of Reliance Industrial Park Limited Nurul Haque Chowdhury as special guests.
Prof. Dr. Mihir Lal Saha, Chairman of the Department of Botany, made a keynote speech. Prof. Dr. Ashfaque Ahmed, Secretary General of the Bangladesh Botanical Society, offered the welcoming address, while Prof. Dr. Mohammed Almujaddade Alfasane addressed the vote of thanks.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. ASM Maksud Kamal emphasized the importance of doing solution-based research to safeguard biodiversity, the environment, and natural resources while also producing adequate vegetables and crops in the country. We must assure food security in the country through research and innovation, he said.
The Vice-Chancellor asked botanists to play an active part in maintaining food safety and lowering danger from climate change. He also stressed knowledge sharing and collaborative research among regional scientists in this regard.
