The 'International Accounting Day-2023' titled 'Accounting for good governance' was observed at Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia amid festivity and fanfare recently. The Accounting and Information System Department of the university observed the day on the campus.
The day was organised by Bangladesh Accounting Association and an associate of the American Accounting Association respectively.
Marking the day, the department held a colorful rally in front of the Business Administration Faculty building on the campus. The rally ended at the same place after parading the main roads on the campus.
Department chairperson Professor Dr Zakir Hossen, Professor Dr Mizanoor Rahman, Professor Dr Abu Sina, University Student Advisor Professor Dr Shelina Nasrin, Professor M Abdus Shaheed Miah, Professor Dr Abdus Sabur, Assistant Professor Dr Kamal Hossain, Israt Jahan, Nazmul Huda, M Shahbub Alam, and more than three hundred students were present at the event.
Later, refreshments and a webinar were held with the participation of the worldwide accounting specialist and Islamic University Accounting department teachers and students. More than eleven public universities, colleges, and BBA organizations nationwide observing the International Accounting Day. Professor Dr Zakir Hossain said that ‘the International Accounting Day was observed by the university Accounting department titled ‘Accounting for Good Governance’. Good governance is essential for every economic sector of the country, society or individual estate. So, there is no substitute for good governance for running any organization or any country.
In that case, accounting ensures the accuracy and procedures of financial data and transactions.
Without these guarantees, good governance is not possible. Therefore, accounting is and will be the foremost function of determining the correctness of financial procedures in the state, society, and private sector. And we celebrated this day with this theme.
