Instability continues in civil admin

Instability continues in the public administration nearly two months after the interim government takes charge following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led government.

A group of influential cadre officials claimed that they were deprived of promotions during the regime of Awami League government. However, they managed to grab important posts in different ministries.

But some other officials claim that those cadre officials were the beneficiaries of the fascist government and demanded their immediate removal.

Following the campaign and counter-campaign for character assassination of government officials, the high-ups are changing their decisions one after another, which, in some cases, is creating serious barriers to smooth functioning of the civil administration.

In latest developments, Dr A K M Matiur Rahman, secretary to the shipping ministry, was removed from his post only three days after his appointment.

In a notification on Wednesday, the Ministry of Public Administration said Matiur was made an officer on special duty (OSD).

The government changed its decision within only three days after his appointment as the secretary. He was appointed to the post on September 30.

The ministry, however, did not cite any reason for his removal.

Matiur was removed from the post as allegations surfaced against him for writing in favour of the autocratic government, ministry sources told this correspondent.

There were also massive allegations of corruption and irregularities when he worked at BIWTC and BIWTA during the Sheikh Hasina regime, they added.

Earlier Elahi Dad Khan's appointment as secretary to the food ministry was cancelled less than nine hours after the public administration ministry issued a notification announcing his appointment.

Dr Mokles-ur-Rahman, secretary of the public administration ministry, told reporters about the decision to cancel the appointment through text message around 7:30 pm on Tuesday.

The retired officer (food cadre) was appointed as secretary for two years on a contractual basis, the ministry said in a notification.

Earlier in the day, the ministry said he was appointed as food ministry secretary.

Elahi Dad Khan has previously held various positions, including District Food Controller and Director of Department of Food.
