Md Bellal Hossain, 20, who was shot in Dhaka during the recent student movement, is now writhing in bed in agony due to lack of better treatment.
Although he came back alive after the shooting incident, his treatment remains stopped due to the financial crisis of his family.
Bellal, son of MdAlauddin Gazi of Kalaiya village under Bauphalupazila in Patuakhali,participated in the Road to Dhaka programme of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on August 5. He was shot in MerulBadda area opposite to BRAC University in the capital.His fatheris a rickshaw driver by profession.
His family has asked for help for better treatmentdue to the financial crisis.
Bellal passed the HSC examination in 2022 from Kalaiya Idris Molla Degree College. However, he could not continue further studies due to lack of money. About six months ago, he took a part-time job in an organisation called SA Nursing Home Care Bd in Rampura area of the capital.
Bullet-hit Bellal said that on the day of the incident, he went out with his friends to protest, was shot in both legs and fell down on the road. At that time, some of the elderly people took him to Nagarik Specialised Hospital of C Block, Zahirul Islam City, Aftab Nagar. As the hospital was completely full, he wastaken to a newly built medical centre called Health Care in the same area. Two days later, his relatives rushed to the centre after getting his news.
The bulletswere removed from his legs at the MulticareHospital in Basabo area. On August 9, he was brought to Kalaiya village home. However, due to lack of money, his treatment remains stopped, said Bellal.
Bellal's mother Nazma Begum said, “We are passing a difficult time. I borrowed money for doing work of our house. Due to lack of money, the boy cannot be treated. He is suffering from pain. I can't stand being a mother anymore.”
Bellal's father Alauddin said, “There were injuries although the bullets were removed. He can't stand on two legs. He is not getting treatment due to lack of money. The boy will have to be crippled if he does not get better treatment.”
Muntasir Tasrif Lamim, coordinator of Bauphal Upazila Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, said, "I have inquired about injured Bellal. He will live on as a shining example of our Bauphal student society. We,the students, will always be by his side. I humbly request the government and people of various professions to stand by him.”
