The High Court has granted an injunction restraining the authorities concerned from constructing houses under the Ashrayan Project on a school premises in Cumilla district.
In response to a writ petition, the higher court issued the status quo on the construction on Mokimpur Abdul Matin Khosru High School ground in Brahmanpara Upazila of Cumilla. As a result, the construction of houses under the government project is suspended on the field, the lawyer concerned said.
The High Court bench of Justice M. Khasruzzaman and Justice AKM Rabiul Hasan issued this order along with a rule. The lawyer concerned Advocate Ghulam Rabbani Sharif confirmed the matter on Wednesday.
Before this, on December 21, president of the Managing Committee of the high school Advocate Abu Ibrahim filed the writ petition to the High Court seeking its directive to suspend the construction work of the houses under the Ashrayan Project on the premises of Mokimpur Abdul Matin Khosru High School of Brahmanpara Upazila of Cumilla.
Advocate Golam Rabbani Sharif said that there are 22 acres of Khas land adjacent to Makimpur Abdul Matin Khosru High School. Out of the land, about three acres of land have been used as a playground since long.
The upazila administration decided to build houses under the Ashrayan Project at this site. In protest, the school students and local residents formed human chain and observed some other programmes. They have no objection to the construction of houses under the Ashrayan Project on the remaining 19 acres of land excluding the three acres of land used as a playground.
Abdul Matin Khosru's wife Selima Sobhan Khosru along with others submitted a petition to the Upazila Administrator and District Administrator but to no avail. For this reason, the writ petition was filed in the High Court.
