Industries set for Bangabandhu Hi-Tech City-2

The government has undertaken an initiative to establish commercial industries inside Bangabandhu Hi-Tech City-2 located at Kaliakoir. In this regard, the information and communication technology division has taken up a project to create new jobs and create the environment for foreign investment. The project with an estimated cost of Tk 344.93 crore will be implemented by the authority of Bangabandhu Hi-Tech City.

A senior official of the Planning Commission told Bangladesh Post that the project would be placed before the executive committee of the national economic council (ECNEC) soon. Once the industries are established, it will create new jobs and create atmosphere for foreign investment in the hi-tech park. After approval from the ECNEC, the project would be implemented by June 2022.

To achieve sustainable development goals (SDG) before the stipulated time frame, the government has taken initiative to establish hi tech parks at every divisional city in the country. Bangabandhu hi tech park is the country's first ever technological park. The size of the park is 355 acres. The main activities of the project are---developing land, construction of10 storey building, construction of internal roads, bridges, culverts walkway.

The ruling government has planned to establish hi-tech city at every district in phases. At least seven foreign and multinational renowned firms, including tech giants Samsung, Symphony and Robi, are set to make huge investments in Bangabandhu Hi-Tech City -2 on 97 acres of land. GR Corporation, Vibrant UK, Bangladesh-Japan IT and Unique Home are the other companies that have already obtained regulatory approval from the government, a top official of Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority (BHTPA) has said.

The companies concerned will focus on technology solution, software development, and property services. They are from India, the USA, Japan and the UK. Samsung and Symphony both were awarded a seven-acre plot each. It was learned that some 19 companies, including the seven global firms, had been awarded final lease agreement recently to implement their projects.
