On behalf and in the name of the President of India, High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami presented the 2021 Padma Shri for distinguished contributions to Arts to Dr. Sanjida Khatun on Tuesday.
Her health had prevented her from traveling to India in Nov 2021 to receive it in person at the ceremony, the High Commission said.
Dr. Sanjida Khatun is an eminent musicologist and one of the principal founders of Mukti Sangrami Shilpi Sangstha during Liberation War of 1971 and Chhayyanaut in early 1960’s, devoted to Bengali culture.
Under her tutelage, Chhayanaut is now a world renowned institute, promoting classical music & dance.
Doraiswami also felicitated Dr. Sanjida Khatun with a token of appreciation, which was presented to Padma Awardees of 2020 and 2021 on Bangladesh, India Maitri Diwas on December 6.
