Indian journalists have lauded the immediate steps taken by Bangladesh government against the mischievous attempt to destroy communal harmony.
The Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Dr Hasan Mahmud made the above remarks after returning to Dhaka on Friday afternoon following his recent visit to India. He was exchanging views with reporters at his official residence at Minto Road.
The Awami League joint general secretary, Dr Hasan Mahmud during his recent visit to India inaugurated the Bangabandhu Press Center at Kolkata Press Club and paid a courtesy call on Biman Bandhopadhyay, Speaker of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly.
He said, “Kolkata journalists had many questions about the course of events in Bangladesh during Durga Puja. I have told them in detail how extremist religious groups including BNP-Jamaat have tried to destroy communal harmony in the country and how the government has cracked down on them in the shortest possible time. And there have been detailed reports in Indian newspapers, radio, television and the online media.”

In response to a question about BNP (BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s statement) about not participating in the next parliamentary election, Dr Hasan Mahmud said, “BNP made such statements as soon as the election came. Not participating in the 2014 elections, not participating in the next elections after the hesitant participation in the 2018 elections, will be harmful to BNP.”
Earlier, the Minister joined a video conference and spoke as the chief guest at his voluntary fund grant in Rangunia Upazila of Chittagong, distribution of cheques and interest-free loans from the Department of Social Services to patients suffering from incurable diseases including cancer and distribution of sports goods to various clubs.
At the same time, he said that Awami League government makes no discrimination between which political party a patient belongs to. Irrespective of their party affiliation AL extends help to those who need it most.
From the optional fund of the Information Minister, 64 people were given assistance, 10 clubs were given sports equipment, 28 people were given medical aid from the Department of Social Services for incurable diseases and 49 people were given rural social service loans.
Rangunia Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Iftekhar Yunus presided over the cheques distribution ceremony at the Upazila Auditorium. Upazila Chairman and Upazila Awami League President Sajan Kumar Talukder, General Secretary Engineer Shamsul Alam Talukder, Social Service Officer Muhammad Hasan, Upazila Awami League Publicity and Publication Secretary Emrul Karim Rashed, Rangunia Press Club General Secretary Editor Jigarul Islam Jigar also spoke.
