Indian High Commissioner of Bangladesh Pranay Kumar Burman visited Benapole port on Thursdaynoon.
He also come to see the highway on his way to connect Benapole Port with Padma Bridge.
When Indian High Commissioner arrived at the port at around 1.00 Pm. Alamgir Hossain, chairman Bangladesh Port Authority, greeted him with flowers.
At that time Deputy High Commissioner Indrajit Sagar, Joint Secretary of Port Sarwar Hossain, Benapole Port Director Abdul Jalil, Benapole Customs Joint Commissioner Shafayat Hossain, Deputy Commissioner Tanveer Ahmed, Deputy Director Monirul Islam, Assistant Director Mahmudul Hasan, Benapole Port Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kamal Hossain Bhuiyan, including Motiar Rahman, Director, India Bangladesh Chamber were present.
The Indian High Commissioner visited various ongoing development works of Benapole port, toured the port area and observed the operational activities.
Later , a meeting was held with the Port authority, Customs Authority, Police , BGB authority.
During an exchange of views with journalists, he said, Road widening with Padma Bridge is urgently needed to expand trade and communication with India especially Kolkata.
He assured that if the journalists complained about the harassment of Bangladeshi passengers by the BSF and Immigration Police at Petrapol Immigration, he would solve the problem quickly.
