India on Wednesday successfully flight tested indigenously-developed low weight, fire- and-forget manually portable antitank guided missile meant for the army.
The test, conducted in the ranges of Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, saw the launch of the missile from a man portable tripod launcher and the target was mimicking a functional tank, the Defence Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday night. “The missile hit the target in top attack mode and destroyed it with precision. All the mission objectives were met,” it said.
The missile has been developed by Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO). This is the third series of successful testing of the missile which is incorporated with state-of-the-art Infrared Imaging Seeker along with advanced avionics, the statement said. “The test paves the way for the army to develop third generation manually portable anti-tank guided missile indigenously,” it added. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO for the successful test.
