India has expressed interest in constructing kitchen market infrastructure at the upazila and municipality levels across the country.

Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Md Tajul Islam made the comment while talking to reporters after meeting Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram Doraiswamy in the ministry on Monday.

“The Government of India wants to take part in our development work as a neighboring friendly country by buying and selling vegetables, fish, meat and other daily necessities. We will take initiative if they make formal offer in this regard,” he said.

In response to the question, Mohammad Tajul Islam said, "This market is not very expensive. We are also doing it on our own initiative. However, when they want to contribute something as a sign of friendship, I think it should be welcomed.”

The minister said that the prime minister has good relations with almost all the countries of the world. Because of this relationship, some foreign organizations and development partners approach the country every day. However, only the beneficial offers are accepted.

Regarding the Narayanganj City Corporation election, the minister said that the election have been fair and neutral which has been witnessed directly by the international community.

The minister said that the vote of Narayanganj city election was witnessed by the entire nation and international community. The media has witnessed it directly. The Awami League candidate has won by a huge margin. The message has reached the diplomats that a fair election has been held through the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) in Narayanganj.

Regarding the allegations of the defeated candidates about the fraud in the EVM, he said that the defeated candidates keep complaining.

“There is no chance of rigging in the EVM. That is why this method is more acceptable. If the government wanted, it could have rigged votes through the EVM system all over the country but it is not doing so because EVM is a new method and technology. Any new approach is somewhat challenging,” he said.
