Air bubble flights between Bangladesh and India will be resumed on August 20, Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen said on Tuesday.
The minister was replying to a question after a handing over ceremony of Covid-19 medical assistant and ambulances from India at the state guesthouse Padma.
Indian High Commissioner Vikram Kumar Doraiswami was also present.
“Transport Bubbles” or “Air Travel Arrangements” are temporary arrangements between two countries aimed at restarting commercial passenger services when regular international flights are suspended as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. They are reciprocal in nature, meaning airlines from both countries enjoy similar benefits.
This mechanism has been created between India and Bangladesh on October 28 in 2020.
After a few months, it was stopped due to the surge of Covid-19 cases.
Bangladesh has recently given a proposal to India regarding resuming the flights. Hundreds of thousands of Bangladeshi travel to India for urgent medical purposes.
