The 54th Independence and National Day-2024 was celebrated in districts on Tuesday in a befitting manner.
In observance of the day, district administration, district Muktizoddha Sangsad, different socio-cultural and political organisations, including Awami League, professional groups and educational institutions chalked out elaborate programs. Our correspondent report:
Khulna Correspondent says: Different organisations, including Khulna district administration, Tuesday celebrated the 54th Independence and National Day pledging to establish a non-communal prosperous and developed Bangladesh with the spirit of Liberation War.
The district administration took elaborate programmes marking the day. The day began with heralding of a 31-gun salute at dawn on the Khulna Metropolitan Police Line premises. Marking the day, national flags were hoisted atop all public and private buildings at dawn and floral wreaths were placed by the people of all walks of life at the Gallyamary Martyrdom Memorial here. Khulna City and District Muktijoddha (Freedom Fighters) Command Council, Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Talukder Abdul Khaleque, Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md Helal Mahmud Sharif, Khulna Police Commissioner Md Mozammel Haque, Khulna Range DIG of Police Enamul Haque, Khulna District Administration, Zila Parishad, City and district units of Awami League, educational institutions and socio-cultural organisations placed wreaths at the memorial at dawn.
Different educational institutions including Khulna University (KU), Khulna University and Engineering Technology (KUET), Khulna Agriculture University, organised different programmes marking the Independence Day.
Liberation War based documentaries and movies were screened at different cinema halls and open places while rare photography and books based on the Liberation War were exhibited at Umesh Chandra Public Library.
Special prayers were offered at mosques, temples, churches and other religious institutions seeking divine blessings for peace and progress of the country. Improved diet has been served at all hospitals, orphanage centers and jail marking the day.
Marking the day, a discussion meeting on life sketch of Bangabandhu and reception programme for Freedom Fighters and members of Shaheed families was held at the Shilpakala Academy.

In observance of the day, district administration, district Muktizoddha Sangsad, different socio-cultural and political organisations, including Awami League, professional groups and educational institutions chalked out elaborate programs.
The day's programme began with heralding of 31-gun salute on the premises of Muktijodha area in front of police super office in the early hours of Tuesday. As part of the programmes, the national flag was hoisted atop all public and private buildings in the district after sunrise. Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Panchagarh Md Johurul slam, Police super S.M. Sirajul Huda, Zila Parished chairman Abdul Hannan, Civil surgeon Mostafa Zaman Chowdary, Panchagarh Pouro Mayor Zakia Katun, placed floral wreaths at the memorial early in the morning. Tangail Correspondent says: On the occasion of the great Independence Day and National Day in Tangail, 31 gunshots were fired and wreaths were laid at the Shahid Muktijodha Memorial square in front of the District Commissioner's office. Deputy Commissioner Kaycharul Islam first placed wreath on behalf of the state. Later, wreaths were placed at Shahid Smriti Municipal Park and prayers were offered for the salvation of the souls of the martyrs.
At 8:30 in the morning, a rally with the students of educational institutions was organized by the district administration at the Tangail Stadium, the official hoisting of the national flag and the national anthem was performed.
Then at 10 in the morning Deputy Commissioner Kaycharul Islam presided over the reception and discussion meeting of brave freedom fighters and martyr freedom fighters family members at Shahid Smriti Municipal Park.
Local MP Chanwar Hossain, Superintendent of Police Sarkar Mohammad Kaiser, Municipal Mayor SM Sirajul Haque Alamgir, Civil Surgeon Dr. Minhaj Uddin Mia, Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman Shahjahan Ansari, Tangail Press Club President Zafar Ahmed and others were present there.
On this day, special prayers are offered in mosques and temples, churches, pagodas and other places to wish peace, prosperity and progress of the nation. Good quality food is served in government hospitals, jails, government child families, vagrant institutions and child day care centers.
