The oath of Independence Day is to materialize Bangabandhu’s dream by eradicating all the evil forces against independence, said Information and Broadcasting Minister and joint general secretary of Awami League Dr Hassan Mahmud.
He expressed this conviction to the journalists after laying a wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the 52nd Independence Day of the country with the central leaders of the party at Dhanmondi 32 in the capital on Saturday.
Awami League Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi and other party leaders were present on the occasion.
Dr Hasan Mahmud said, “On the night of March 25, 1971, in the early hours of March 26, 1971, the greatest Bengalee of all time, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had declared our independence. And under his leadership, through nine months of war, the Bengalees established the first nation-state in their five thousand-year history. Today, after 50 years of independence, under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina, the daughter of the Father of the Nation, we have overtaken Pakistan in all indicators, even India is also behind in many indices.”
He said, “Sadly, the BNP and its allies are still the main sponsors of the anti-liberation forces in this country. Today, our oath is to eradicate all anti-liberation forces and take Bangladesh to materialize Bangabandhu’s dream.”
Earlier in his speech, Hasan Mahmud commemorated the day with Bangabandhu, 3 million martyrs who dedicated their lives in the war of liberation, 200,000 women who were persecuted, four national leaders and all martyrs including Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib who were martyred on August 15, 1975.
