Improving education quality and access across Bangladesh

Published : 06 Aug 2024 09:17 PM

Education is crucial for the development of any country. In Bangladesh, the government has made great progress in getting children into school, with nearly 100% enrolment in primary education, according to UNESCO. However, the quality of education remains a significant challenge. Many schools, especially in rural areas, lack basic facilities, trained teachers, and learning materials.

The government has increased spending on education, but resources are still insufficient. Overcrowded classrooms, outdated curricula, and a focus on rote learning hinder students’ ability to think critically and creatively. Teachers often do not receive the necessary training to improve their teaching skills.

Access to education is also unequal. Children in remote areas face difficulties in reaching schools, and many families struggle with the costs of uniforms, books, and transportation. Girls often face additional barriers due to cultural and societal norms.

To improve education quality and access, the government and other stakeholders need to work together. This includes investing in better school infrastructure, especially in rural areas, providing continuous training for teachers, and updating the curriculum to make learning more engaging and relevant.

It is also important to ensure equal access to education for girls by addressing social and economic barriers. Engaging parents and communities in education planning can help create a supportive environment for students.

By addressing these challenges, Bangladesh can create a more inclusive and effective education system that benefits all students, helping the country achieve long-term development and prosperity.
