As the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) is continuing to claim more deaths and raise the infected-people in the capital Dhaka and Naryanganj and Gazipurdistricts, experts have suggested imposing curfew there. No visible sign of controlling Corona infection in Dhaka and Narayanganj is in sight.Rather the number of deaths and corona-infected persons in these two districts is increasing at an alarming rate every day.

On the 47th day of the corona outbreak in the country, Dhaka city and adjoiningNarayanganjdistrict have become the riskiest places for corona. Medicine Specialist Aminul Islam talking to The Bangladesh Post said, “We are heading towards ‘peak transmission’. To curb the rate of infection, local administrations must act hard upon common people. People must respect law enforcers because they’re doing it for all.”

So far, 84 percent of the total infected patients in the country have been identified in Dhaka division. Of these, 41.20 percent are in the capital and 24 percent in Narayanganj. Even the death toll in Dhaka city and Narayanganj is rising at an alarming rate. Till yesterday, a total of 60 people died of Coronavirus in Dhaka city alone followed by 36 in Narayanganj. In other words, out of 120 people who died across the country till Wednesday, 96 were from the capital and Narayanganj amounting 84 percent of the total deaths.

The disease is spreading from these two places to different parts of the country. Till Thursday, the disease has spread to 58 out of 64 districts. Out of these, the infection has been reported in 29 districts through infected people from Dhaka and Narayanganj. 23 districts from Narayanganj and 6 districts from Dhaka have been affected.

Corona has spread to the 13 districts of Dhaka division mostly from Dhaka city and Narayanganj. On the failure of corona control in these two districts, chief scientific officer of the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control, and Research (IEDCR) DrAlamgir Hossain told that “These places are densely populated. The population density is high. People do not want to accept the lockdown. Not even they maintain the social distancing.”

Regarding Narayanganj, he said, it is unlikely that the infection is going to be stopped here soon. This is the place where the first corona case was identified. A group of people came here from Italy and spread the virus. Dhaka Medical College (DMC) Professor Khan Md Abul Kalam Azad said Dhaka, Narayanganj, and Gazipur have emerged as sources of Corona infection.

“From there the deadly virus is spreading to different parts of the country, including Kishoreganj, Narsingdi and Manikganj. If necessary, institutional quarantine should be arranged.Nothing will happen if people stay at home for two weeks. But if you are not at home, the medical system, everything including the economy will collapse. So be careful from now on,” he said.

Regarding corona control in these two districts, the expert said that social distancing must be maintained. The fewer people come out, the fewer the infections. These two places need adequate medical attention now rather than increasing the tests. “Whoever bringing the symptoms, the doctors have to treat the COVID-19 patients. Extensive treatment is needed more than tests during a general epidemic. Otherwise, it will be difficult to prevent infections.”
