Five Port users organizations for the second day have suspended imported Indian goods through Benapole port on Thursday in protest against India' refusal to accept Bangladeshi export goods.
As a result, hundreds of trucks loaded with goods are stuck at the Indian Petrapole port. 5 organizations of port users have announced to stop imported all types of goods from India until they receive Bangladeshi export goods.
As a result, there has been an export trade deficit with India of Tk 2,000 crore in the last three months.
500 trucks of export goods are stuck in Benapole port. These trucks have been stuck at Benapole port for the last three months. After a long three-month shutdown, India agreed to accept Bangladeshi exports even though import trade was resumed through Benapole port on June 7.
The government of India and the traders of that country allow the export of Indian products to Bangladesh but do not allow the export of Bangladeshi products to enter India
Alhaj Mofizur Rahman Sajon, president of the Benapole C&F Agents Association, said india was not accepting Bangladeshi export goods. But India exports all kinds of goods to Bangladesh with out any barrier.
As a result, 5 port user organizations have announced a halt to import trade from India. The Benapole port user organizations met at an emergency meeting at the local C&F Agents Association auditorium today at 11:30 am to discuss the ongoing situation.
The meeting was presided over by Mofizur Rahman Sajon, President, Benapole C&F Agents Association. As a result, no imported goods from India have entered Bangladesh yet. Bangladeshi exporters have to pay large amount of truck demurrage as Bangladeshi export goods cannot enter India.
Akram Hossain, assistant commissioner of Benapole Customs, said import trade from India was closed for the second day today.
Port users' organizations have stopped imported Indian goods since Wednesday in protest against non-acceptance of Bangladeshi export goods.
However, work is going on normally at Benapole Port and Customs House. Benapole Port Director Mamun Kabir Tarafdar said that various port users’ organizations have stopped imported Indian goods from Wednesday in protest against non-acceptance of Bangladeshi export goods to India.
As a result, the import of goods has been stopped for the last two days. However, work at the port is normal. Delivery of goods from the port has continued.
