Following the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government, Bangladesh is seeing many changes. The film industry, in particular, is expected to undergo significant reforms. Under Sheikh Hasina's administration, several films were banned by the censor board. Now, with the new interim government in place, there is hope for changes in these regulations.
However, actor Ilias Kanchan has a different opinion. He supports the idea of keeping a censorship system but insists that the people appointed to the censor board should be chosen for their qualifications and unbiased views. Kanchan believes that these members should have a fair and open mindset.
Kanchan also expressed his hopes for the new government to focus on revitalizing the film industry. He pointed out that many old movie theatres are in poor condition, which makes people reluctant to visit them. He believes these theatres need to be reopened and modernized to encourage more people to watch films.
Regarding government support, Kanchan mentioned that making artistic films often leads to financial losses if they are not commercially successful. He stressed the importance of creating films that can attract a wider audience. According to Kanchan, the film industry needs to balance creativity with commercial success to thrive.
In response to the calls for reform, ICT adviser Nahid Islam has promised to review the current censorship system. He said that films previously banned will be processed soon and that the idea of abolishing the censor board will be carefully considered.
