If environment doesn’t survive, we won’t survive: JKKNIU VC

Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Soumitra Sekhar Dey on Wednesday said if the environment does not survive, we won’t survive as well.

He also said none of us is safe if there will be no oxygen at the atmosphere. Everyone’s awareness is very important in this regard. All have to come forward to save the environment.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university came up with the assertion while he was attending a rally on the occasion of World Environment Day on the campus in Mymensingh on Wednesday morning. Environmental Science and Engineering Department of the university organized the rally.

Putting emphasis on protecting the environment, Dr Soumitra Sekhar Dey further said, “Planting saplings and maintenance of them is very important. Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman told us to plant trees and save them. So, we will have to take necessary steps to save the trees after planting those.”

He also said, “We have planted trees on the university campus in a planned way. We fenced around the saplings to save the trees last year. We have got its result within a year. More saplings will be planted this year as well on behalf of the university administration. We want our teachers and students will play a vital role in planting saplings and maintenance of them.”

The rally was brought out from in front of the administrative building of the university and paraded several roads on the campus.  JKKNIU VC Dr Soumitra Sekhar Dey led the rally where Treasurer Professor Dr Ataur Rahman, Registrar Dr Md Humayun Kabir, heads of several offices and departments of the university, its teachers and students took part at the rally.
