IEDCR team visits the village after sudden death of two sisters

An expert team of the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research’ (IEDCR) visited Kalikapur village in Pabna’s Faridpur upazila on Monday after the sudden death of two sisters of a family and affected 12 others in the village three days ago. Although the affected patients are getting cure but villagers are worried about sudden disease. Meanwhile, the district health authority confirmed that the two sisters died with food poisoning while the affected others are the victims of mass psychogenic illness, nothing to be worried.

Earlier, two sisters Sathi Khatun, 13, and her younger sister Bithi Khatun, daughter of Shahidul Pramanik of village Kalikapur of Hadol union in Pabna’s Faridpur upazila were died with the unidentified disease on Friday and early Saturday (within 12 hours) while 12 others were affected of them two were admitted in Pabna general hospital.

The two admitted patients got released from the hospital on Monday as they were getting improved said Dr Mehedi Iqbal, Pabna district civil surgeon told the journalists in a press briefing at his office on Monday afternoon. 

All the patients are affected with mass psychogenic illness as the two young girls died though they died of food poisoning. Md Selim Uddin, chairman of Hadol union Parishad said the death of the two sisters brings panic among the villagers over the unidentified disease. 

Meanwhile, a high officials team of the IEDCR headed by dr Abdullah Hel Maruf Faruki, medical officer of IEDCR visited the affected village and collected samples from the spot to diagnosis.
