Celebrated singer and songwriter Syed Hyder Husyn, a longstanding advocate for social justice through his music, has made headlines once again with his latest releases.
On Wednesday, last week, Husyn premiered his new song "Ami Likhte Chaini" (I Didn’t Want to Write) on Facebook. This poignant track captures the spirit of the student-led movement for justice and equality.
Despite recent health challenges that have limited his performance capabilities, Husyn has refused to let his voice be silenced during the ongoing anti-discrimination student protests.
Husyn revealed that the song, which was initially scheduled for release on July 18, was delayed due to an internet shutdown. In a heartfelt post, he explained, "I penned this song for the movement. Just before releasing it, the internet was cut off. By popular demand, I am releasing it now."
Additionally, Husyn recently unveiled another powerful track, "Bijoy Ullas" (The Joy of Victory), on YouTube. This song, which celebrates the triumph of the people over oppression, is a collaborative effort with music composer Foad Nasser Babu and features vocals by Miraz Khan, the lead singer of the band Mati.
Reflecting on "Bijoy Ullas," Husyn emphasised its significance in the context of recent events. "The students and people fought bravely to achieve this new vision for our country. We are elated with our victory against the oppressors, but we must remain vigilant to preserve the celebrations and the freedom we've earned. 'Bijoy Ullas' conveys the message that while we celebrate, there is still much work to be done to keep this joy alive."
Husyn’s new songs not only resonate with current socio-political sentiments but also reinforce his commitment to using his music as a platform for advocacy and change.
