A Khulna court on Monday awarded death sentence to three people, including husband, for killing a housewife at Badurgaccha village under Dumuria upazila in the district in 2016.
The convicts are Prosenzit Gain, husband of the victim, Onimesh Gain and Biplob Kanti Mandal. Prosenzit Gain and Biplob Kanti Mandal are absconding.
Khulna District and Sessions Judge Moshiur Rahman Chowdhury pronounced the verdict. The court also sentenced them to seven-year jail term each and fined Tk 45,000 under two other sections.
The court, however, acquitted one accused-- Sudash Gain, brother of Prosenzit Gain.
According to the case statement, Tumpa was choked to death by her husband on October 7 in 2016 and her body was dumped in Ghangrail River. Police recovered her body from the river two days later.
Tumpa’s brother Somit Mandal filed a case with Dumuria Police Station in this connection.
Police submitted chargesheet against four accused on November 25 in 2017.
