People in Ranisankail upazila of Thakurgaon on Monday formed a human chain to demand the widening of a 10 kilometre paved road from Nekmarad Bazar to Checkpost Bazar.
The human chain was formed at the intersection of Nekmarad Bazaar at noon, with over 200 participants, including students, business owners, and locals from various professions.
The event was organized by a social organization named Shubho Shakti Unity. Alama Wadud Bin Noor Alif, general secretary of the upazila BNP, Abu Bakr Siddiq Manik, president of the union BNP, Advocate Mehedi Hasan Shubho, a Supreme Court lawyer, businessman Ahsan Habib Shanto, and leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement spoke in the meeting. The speakers said the 10-kilometer paved road from Nekmarad to Checkpost is in a very narrow condition, making it challenging for two vehicles to pass at the same time. This not only leads to traffic congestion but also creates constant inconvenience for local residents and travelers. In addition, the narrowness of the road is a significant safety concern, as it increases the risk of accidents. Given the high volume of traffic and the daily struggles faced by the community, it is essential that the road be widened and properly maintained to ensure smoother and safer travel.
