The Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF-2020) witnessed a rush of visitors on Friday, the third weekend after the start of the country's biggest trade fair on January 1. Visitors, especially the youth, were seen standing in long queues in front of multiple ticket counters to enter the fair premises in city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
The visitors are drawn to multiple attractive discounts, special offers, introductory prices, gifts and lotteries and what not. The discounts range from about 5 to 100 percent on different products at almost all the stalls and pavilions. There are lottery arrangements too. Many companies are making home-delivery in Dhaka city areas after sale. Apart from the free delivery system, there are also several facilities.
Member Secretary Abdur Rouf said the trade fair has been organised with several special arrangements featuring DITF e-shop, small scale medical centre, and blood donation centre, big and small pavilions and so on. He said that the trade fair is not only for showcasing goods but it has also turned out to be a place for entertainment. “To ensure that, we have reduced the number of stalls this year to offer free space for the comfort of the crowd.
“We expect the daily turnout of visitors to hit further on coming days,” he added. Sanjida Chowdhury, a government employee, told Bangladesh post that she has come to the fair from city’s Baily Road area with her family to buy products like cosmetics, home appliances, garments and electronics gazettes.
She said that, like in the previous years, she usually comes to the fair in the last week of the month-long fair, but this time she preferred to come early to avoid rush of crowd. Sanjida said the trade fair is a very good place to choose desired products as many local and international companies are participating in the fair and displaying their best collections.
Managers of several pavilions said the fair offers them scope to display new products and designs before a large number of visitors. Rashedul Haque, pavilion in-charge, said that most of the people are still window shopping as this is the second week of the fair. Most visitors are now coming to get an idea of products and their prices, he said.
Nur E Alam Sheikh, a salesman of Jhumka Jeweler, said they were happy over sales of their ornaments of different designs as huge customers started crowding their shop on Friday. However, the fair will remain open daily from 10 am to 10 pm. Tickets for the fair will also be available online this time.
They said this time the ticket for the fair has been fixed at 40 Taka for adult and Tk 20 for children. A total of 21 foreign organisations from India, Pakistan, China, South Korea, Iran, Thailand, the United States, Singapore, Bhutan, Nepal, Vietnam, the Maldives, Japan, Italy, Denmark Russia, Germany, the United Kingdom, Australia and Hong Kong applied for participating in the fair this year, they added.
The major items that are put on parade at the fair venue this time include machinery, carpets, cosmetics and beauty products, electronic, jute, leather and sports goods, sanitary ware, toys, ceramics, fabrics, processed foods, furniture and handicrafts.
Apart from the business stalls, amusement park for children, mother and child center, separate booths and security service rooms for male and female, fire service station, blood donation center, complaint center of the Consumer Rights Protection, power grid sub-station, generation station and space for car parking has been arranged inside the fair compound.
