In light of the severe flood situation, the HSC, Madrasah, and Technical Examinations in Sylhet Division have been postponed until July 8. Originally scheduled to start on June 30, these exams have been rescheduled due to the ongoing natural disaster. Exams that were planned to take place from July 9 onwards will proceed as initially planned. The revised schedule for the postponed exams will be announced later via an official notification. This information was disseminated through a circular issued by the Inter Education Board Coordinating Committee.
While each of the nine general education boards have distinct exam papers, the Technical and Madrasa Education Boards use uniform papers nationwide. A senior official from the Technical Education Board explained that multiple sets of question papers are prepared in advance. For Sylhet Division, new question papers will be printed from these existing sets to be used at the rescheduled exam dates. Similar arrangements will be implemented for the madrasa exams. Flooding in Sylhet began on May 29 due to heavy rainfall and landslides from upstream. Although the situation had improved after June 8, continuous rainfall starting last Monday caused flooding again. Currently, 1,548 villages across 13 upazilas and 23 city wards are submerged, affecting approximately 180,000 people.
On Wednesday, Sylhet experienced heavy rainfall throughout the day, but it ceased at night, offering a brief respite. However, the rains resumed on Thursday morning, heightening the anxiety among residents trapped in the floodwaters.
Authorities are actively monitoring the flood situation and are working to provide updates on the new examination dates as soon as possible. Efforts are being made to ensure the safety and well-being of all affected individuals during this challenging time.
